STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

We are proud of goals reached, ribbons won and hurdles crossed by our students.  This page is devoted to spreading the word about their acomplishments.

Stepping up in the level of competition didn't slow down
Andrea Smith who took her Palomino gelding Millennium Superstar (barn name: Slick) to two first place awards and a fourth place in Amateur Showmanship in Hand.
Andrea is actually a "novice amateur", but when there weren't enough competitors to make a class, she decided to step up and face more experienced competition.  "I was so excited," she told instructor Cathy Hanson, "that I just had to share with you."   Andrea is currently enrolled in the Breyer State University (BSU) equine studies course, Showmanship in Hand.
Andrea competes in Palomino Horse Breeders Association shows in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  In addition to showmanship, she completes in Hunter Under Saddle, Road Hack and Western Pleasure.
Once Andrea graduates from BSU with her Bachelor of Science degree, she plans on opening her own business training and selling horses.
Her focus now is on getting her degree and winning classes with Slick.

David Hooper just picked up a new client…a man who has taught in the equine department at Pepperdine University for 20 years.    “Jim has watched me work with my horse as I progressed through the course, Training Performance Horses….he was so impressed with how things were going, he wants me to do for his horse, just what I did for Dallas.”   David was in the hotel management business, but wanted a career with horses, so less than 2 years ago he enrolled in the Breyer State University Equine Studies degree program…and he graduated with a degree, with a new, successful business and a growing list of clients.

Kelly Jones, an Equine Degree student, was given a malnourished yearling with developmental problems.  Working with instructor Eleanor Richards to formulate a nutrition plan for the youngster, Jones was able to turn his life around and get him on a path to health and fitness. "He is really growing and has lots of energy now," Kelly says.
So impressed with the results Kelly achieved with the youngster, the person who gave the colt to Kelly has asked Kelly to formulate a nutritional plan for her entire broodmare band.

Joanne Wachtveitl, an Equine Degree student, instructs young academy students in horsemanship.   Her entire class of 30 participated in an annual parade, but before the parade Joanne used the massage skills she learned in Equine Massage to relax the student's horses. The class won the parade's "Most Original" award.

Susan Dahl, an Equine Degree student, had a very successful year showing the four-year-old reining mare she trained. Dahl was a 2006 National Reining Horse Association Adequan North American Affiliate Championships Qualifier, was 3rd Limited Non-Pro year-end, and multiple Pewter Trophy Winner in the Ontario Reining Horse Association, and she was 2006 Canadian Pro-Am Amateur "A" Champion. Dahl is close to earning her diploma
