Did You Know....... Add another “championship” to the HorseCoursesOnline.com faculty competition record. Sheza Especial Gold, a HorseCoursesOnline.com project horse, earned the title of 2010 World Champion in Junior Trail competition at the American Buckskin Registry Association World Show in Tulsa, OK. Working in the practice pen, Don Blazer and "Sheza" jog along. Ridden by Don Blazer instructor for the online course, Training Performance Horses, the four-year-old filly was placed first under all five judges. Sheza, as she is know around the barn, was started under saddle two years ago as part of a series of video demonstrations used in the college and professional certification courses. In 2009 Blazer rode Commander Pine Bar, another HorseCoursesOnline.com project horse to the title of Reserve World Champion in Junior Trail. Blazer is one of five trainers of World Champions on the faculty of HorseCoursesOnline.com (HCO) the leading provider of equine study curriculum for colleges and universities world-wide. HCO provides 26 equine study courses leading to a Bachelor of Science degree from Breyer State University and professional certifications as a horse trainer or riding instructor from the Equine Studies Institute. Other world champion trainers on the HCO faculty include Nancy Cahill, Cathy Hanson, Dr. Jim McCall and Gord Wadds. Sheza's training from before the first saddle to the flying change of leads followed the online course lesson plan and was supplemented with lessons from Cathy Hanson's course, Train A Trail Horse. To view some demonstration videos with HCO project horses visit www.horsecoursesonline.com and click on "See Training Tips" in the main menu. We're adding courses and expanding the Breyer State University Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies degree program. The demand is growing for riding instructors with credentials showing they are more than just "heels down, chin up" teachers, so we're adding Riding Instructor Role and Responsibility and Teaching Techniques to the degree program. These courses are now part of the degree requirements. No other college degree program covers such a wide range of subjects, giving the student more options and opportunities for success. When you graduate and receive your BSU diploma, you'll have an accredited degree in Equine Studies, and professional certification as both a Horse Trainer and a Riding Instructor and it is all included without additional cost. In addition we have "special knowledge" courses which will soon be available. Special knowledge courses include: Training a Reining Horse, Train a Winning Trail Horse, Win at Western Riding, Train the Hunt Seat Horse, The Essence of Equine Photography, Fit to Ride (a weight loss guide), and How To Up Your Dressage Scores. Special knowledge courses are listed as "electives", but can be substituted for Dressage: Foundation for All Riding Disciplines or Showmanship in Hand. Any three of the "electives" must to taken to complete graduation requirements. Take all "electives" just to round out your education as a "bonus" to those who seek your advice or services. (06_09) BSU student Katie (Rye) Szabo has launched www.TheEquineTrader.com, making her "dream business" a reality. Katie enrolled at Breyer State University in February of 2007, and selected The Business of Making Money With Horses as one of her first courses. She knew from the very beginning she wanted to have an "online" horse sales business. Now she has one! A resident of the England, Katie started with United Kingdom based horses, then expanded her business with a US site. An excellent unique feature: list the attributes you want in your dream horse, and The Equine Trader will notify you as soon as a horse that meets your criteria is available on the site. Among the things which make her online sales site different from competitors is her "monthly horse care tips" feature which will have visitors returning on a regular basis. And finally, she has a special "Buying and Selling" strategy list to help those advertising on her site. By the way, she passed the BSU business course with an "A". BSU graduate David Hooper's got himself a thriving horse industry business...a business he conceived and designed while taking the Equine Studies degree course, The Business of Making Money With Horses. "It's taken me some trial and error to figure out that you were right when you said to find one thing and become the best at it," David says. David was training horses for others, but really wanted to have a very upscale trail riding adventure package for riders who wanted well-trained and super looking trail horses. "I had to give up my training business and only focus on my trail riding packages," David says. "I did that and now I'm keeping very busy and have not even started to advertise." David has a niche: he has some of the best-trained trail horses in the country, and the best looking. "My business is like no other "horse rental" business in the world," he says. The business has evolved into "trail riding" lessons also...and David says his "return" business is phenominal. I have students who have fallen in love with my Palomino horse and pay me to just let them hack around. "Doing one thing you love with horses really pays off," David says. Visit David's website: www.hoopertrailhorses.com According to a 2007 AQHA survey 71 percent of its members are female. This is in sharp contrast to statistics gathered in the past, when members were mostly male. The opportunities for women in the equine industry are rewarding, abundant and increasing. Visit www.equinedegreeonline.com to earn a bachelor's of science degree in equine studies, and then grab the opportunities. |
