Equine Studies Symposium                                           (a comprehensive review of student's knowledge)          The student will submit a video demonstration showing the student longeing a horse,   riding all three gaits, stopping, backing, leg yielding and half-passing in a balanced and   controlled manner.  (The student shall write a report on the behavior modification techniques    used during the horse's training program.)        The conformation strengths and weaknesses of the horse working in the video shall be   reported as they relate to the specific work the horse is being trained to perform.  This report   may be done as a voice over.  The video must show the horse being "squared for inspection" and   then show the horse from the front, side and rear.        The horse in the video should be groomed and ready for a specific competition.  The grooming   should reflect the style of the competition to be entered.        The video shall show the horse's equipment and all four feet in close up.  A written report   explaining why the equipment is suitable for this horse and his work shall accompany the video.        The student shall prepare a written report on the choice of shoes being used and the   correctness of the "balance" of the horse's feet.        The video shall show the horse's stall or stable, water and feeding apparatus and bedding.  A   written report shall be presented on choices of housing.  In addition, a complete nutrition and   feeding schedule (with reasons for choices) shall accompany this portion of the video.        The video shall show the student bathing, grooming, cleaning feet and performing various   equine massage techniques.        The student shall submit a report on the breeding of the horse in the video with recommended   procedures for breeding other horses, which would have the physical characteristics necessary to   perform in similar events.  Coat color and how it can be predicted shall be discussed in this   paper.        A complete report on this horse's soundness and health care (including health maintenance)   shall be submitted.  The report must include injuries and how they were treated.  (If the horse is   relatively new to the student, then the student shall perform a soundness examination and   report all findings.        Finally the student shall describe in detail his or her business plan.  The plan must include   the student's selected niche within the industry and a comprehensive marketing strategy.   Special legal considerations and liabilities shall be discussed, including insurance requirements.        The business plan should include time frame goals and a prioritized goal attainment plan.
